Search Engine Optimisation

Of all the topics I've been reading about so far in digital marketing, one of them keeps presenting itself - search. While I was reading the other day, I started to put a lot of the pieces together and the thought struck me - "It's all about the search!"

I began studying digital marketing because I had an interest in social media. I wanted to look at the role of social media and how this can be used by marketers. This led to me search and SEO. I began to see how much the efforts of marketers in social media are about search.

I've learnt a lot this week - about Adwords, CPC, SEO, blogging, social bookmarking, social networking, community building -and the one thing they all seem to come back to is increasing the rank of your page in search results. In 2011, link-building has become a huge part of search. Think about the amount of sources we have now for generating links and sharing content - and the list is growing!

This is something that Brian Seth touched on tonight on a webinar hosted by Facebook. The video can be watched here: http://on.fb.me/studiotalkslive He talks about the art of multi-media cross-platform storytelling. Brian made the point that you have to begin where people live and then you have branch out to reach other platforms. You need to be able to tell your story across multiple platforms. Social media is diversifying.

People should definitely not be putting all their eggs in one basket!
